Quandela
French full-stack photonic quantum-computing company founded in 2017 as a CNRS / Université Paris-Saclay (C2N) spin-out by Pascale Senellart, Niccolò Somaschi, and Valérian Giesz. Builds discrete-variable photonic processors driven by deterministic semiconductor-quantum-dot single-photon sources in micropillar cavities — technology developed in Senellart's group at C2N. Sells the MosaiQ photonic QC line (6 to 24 qubits) and the Prometheus single-photon source. Delivered what the company described as Europe's first customer-installed photonic QC to OVHcloud in 2023; the 12-qubit Lucy was inaugurated at CEA's TGCC in April 2026 under EuroHPC / GENCI.
Timeline
Current flagship
MosaiQ / Lucy — discrete-variable photonic QC, quantum-dot single-photon sources, 6–24 qubits (Lucy = 12 qubits at CEA TGCC)
Milestones
- 2026-04Lucy inaugurated at CEA's TGCC — 12-qubit universal digital photonic QC delivered to EuroHPC / GENCI; opens to European researchers via EuroQCS-France remote-access
- 2025-10Lucy delivered to EuroHPC / GENCI at CEA's TGCC — ~€8.5M procurement (50% EuroHPC + 50% France), assembled in 12 months
- 2024-09EuroHPC procurement contract for Lucy signed with Quandela (lead) and attocube systems AG, following Jan 2024 call for tender
- 2024Photonic QC deployed at Exaion datacentres in Canada — international commercial reach
- 2023-11€50M+ Series B raised; first MosaiQ photonic QC delivered to OVHcloud — announced by Quandela as the first commercial photonic-QC sale in Europe
- 2023Quandela opens what the company described as Europe's first quantum-computer production plant (Massy, France) — manufacturing capacity for quantum-dot single-photon sources at scale
- 2017Company founded as CNRS / Université Paris-Saclay (C2N) spinout by Pascale Senellart, Niccolò Somaschi, Valérian Giesz
